MannaScan is a barcode scanner that tells you whether a grocery product is compatible with your blood type. Scan any barcode, and we instantly analyze every ingredient against your blood type profile.

It's built on Dr. Peter D'Adamo's blood type diet research — the idea that different blood types process foods differently, and that eating for your type can support better energy, digestion, and overall wellbeing.

How does scanning work?

Point your camera at any grocery product barcode. MannaScan looks up the product in a global food database (Open Food Facts), extracts the ingredient list, and checks each ingredient against blood type diet research for your specific type.

The whole process takes about 2–3 seconds. No manual entry needed — just scan and go.

How is the compatibility score calculated?

Each ingredient in the product is rated against your blood type:

What are blood type diets?

Blood type diets are a nutritional approach developed by naturopathic physician Dr. Peter D'Adamo in his 1996 book "Eat Right 4 Your Type." The theory holds that your ABO blood type influences how your body responds to different foods, proteins (lectins), and lifestyle factors.

Each blood type has evolved at different points in human history — Type O is our oldest ancestor (hunter-gatherer), while Type AB is the most recent. D'Adamo suggests each type thrives on foods that align with those evolutionary roots.

The History

In 1996, naturopathic physician Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo published "Eat Right 4 Your Type," arguing that human ABO blood groups evolved at different stages of history, and that the foods available during each period shaped each blood type's ideal diet.

The book became an international bestseller, translated into over 65 languages. D'Adamo built on the work of his father, James D'Adamo, who had been exploring blood type connections to diet since the 1970s. Today it remains one of the most popular personalized nutrition frameworks worldwide.

The Science of Lectins

A core mechanism in D'Adamo's theory is dietary lectins — proteins found in many foods that can bind to specific blood type antigens on cell surfaces. When incompatible lectins bind to your cells, they can cause agglutination (clumping) and trigger inflammation or digestive disruption.
